David Warner’s date with Steve Smith’s Sutherland side in
Sydney Grade Cricket has ended in his being dismissed for 13 by
In the eagerly awaited grade cricket match, Warner opened for
Randwick-Petersham in front of about 500 people at Sydney’s
Coogee Oval on Saturday.
He struck two fours off the back foot early in his 16-ball knock
but was caught at gully slashing at a ball outside off stump from
Austin Waugh, the son of former Australian captain Steve.
Warner has already hit two centuries this year in grade cricket
as he and Smith serve their 12-month bans from elite Australian
cricket following the ball-tampering scandal.
Warner and Smith are free to return to the national set up at
the end of March, with their first match back likely to come in
next year’s one-day World Cup in England.
Saturday’s clash features a wealth of talent, with Shane
Watson also turning out for Sutherland and Warner’s team also
featuring NSW Sheffield Shield players Jason Sangha and Daniel
